Today, Bakersfield was named a Top Solar City in California – coming in at #3!

Sunrun, the nation’s leading home solar company, partnered with PV Solar Report to announce new data this morning showing top California cities for solar growth in 2012.

Additionally, the report shows the growth and economic benefits of third-party-owned solar in the State. Also called solar power service, third-party-owned solar means a provider like Sunrun owns, maintains and insures solar panels on a homeowner's roof. Homeowners switch to solar without the high upfront cost, avoid the responsibilities of ownership, and save money on electricity bills.

The report’s new data shows third-party-owned solar generated over of $900 million for the state’s economy last year alone – that’s more than the past 5 years combined! In fact, 3 out of 4 California homeowners who went solar in 2012 chose third-party-owned. And Third-party-owned solar represented 75% of the 2012 home solar market among Top CA cities for solar growth. The state leaders for 2012 in order of total home solar contract value are:
