Triple Play was originally organized in 1999 by head coach/manager Darrin Dickey, and consisted of 8 year old boys (including son Josh Dickey) who continued to play together until they began high school baseball. Those 8 year old boys are now 19 and 20 years old playing baseball in college, with one player being drafted into the major leagues.
Head coach Darrin Dickey recently put together a new Triple Play team for his 8 year old son, Kaleb. The new team began practicing together about four months ago. They have played in three 10 and under tournaments, and are currently playing in a 12 and under local club league. As you can imagine, they've gotten beat most of the time playing against much older kids.
This past weekend Triple Play traveled to Ventura, California and played in a 9 and under tournament. They finally got a chance to see what it was like to play against boys their own age. They went undefeated the first day sending them straight to the championship game on Sunday. Their two wins on Saturday was enough to send them home with smiles on their faces, so you can imagine the excitement in their hearts when they received Championship trophies after run-ruling the Ventura Batbusters 14-4 in 4 innings.
Congratulations to Triple Play for a well played tournament. May this be the beginning of many more victories for you.
