Dear friends and neighbors,

Just stopping by to say hello and wish you all a Happy 2007!  With the new year and just having celebrated Christmas, I am reminded of all the things for which I am thankful.  To our military...THANK YOU for doing what you must and for being a great example of America.  I'm thankful for living in this great town in this great land of ours. 

In response to KHSD and their controversial change from "winter break" to "Christmas break"....KUDOS to them.  Some may not like it, but as a traditionalist who chafes against a lot of change, why in the heck was it changed to begin with?  So what that the holiday coincides with the winter solstice?.....winter solstice isn't the reason millions of people buy Christmas trees every year and adorn them with ornaments, buy presents, etc.  Where were these complaints 40 years ago?  It just seems that people these days are always seeking to be politically correct, making changes to institutions, buildings, names, the pledge of allegiance, etc. for simply the sake of change.  Why?  So all tradition is tossed to the wind?  Here's my thought... if you don't like it, then don't celebrate it.  Period.  If you don't like your child saying the pledge, let them sit it out...but please don't change it for the majority of people who have always liked it this way.  It's like fixing something that isn't broken.

Many people are voicing their opinions quite eloquently on why what KHSD did was wrong.  This may not be eloquent, but it's my blog and I'm saying that what they did was right.  Christianity aside, does it REALLY hurt people to call it Christmas, considering that we've been calling it that for centuries?  Really?  What's broken and why does it need fixing?  Are people's little feelers so delicate that we can't continue with the name of a holiday? 

Well, I'm sorry...but toughen up, for heaven's sake!  If you don't like it, don't celebrate it, don't buy a tree or presents, and don't partake in any of the lights or the fun of Christmas.  But stop trying to make changes that aren't necessary.  Please stop wasting precious energy on fixing something as random as the word "Christmas," and use your energy to donate your time, money and eloquent writing to something that will make a true and lasting impression in ALL OF OUR LIVES... not just those of you who take offense to the word "Christmas."
