Goodbye, Yankee Stadium
The house that Ruth built. Whether or not you are a New York Yankees fan, you have to pay just a little homage to this great ball club and the greatest collection of players that has ever passed through the game of baseball. From 1923 (think about that!) to today, players like Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Roger Maris, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, and, of course, the Jeters and A-Rods and Giambi players, too. Baseball... from WWI to the present. The Cold War to 9/11. Can't get enough of it. So long, Yankee Stadium and all the history that went along with it. I'm a Red Sox fan, but above all... I am a fan of baseball. 3 comments from 3 users

I cried my little heart out last night watching the presentation on ESPN. I just don't understand how they could just tear down a piece of American History like that, just to turn it into a parkinglot? It blows my mind that they are going to do that. I wish they could find a way to save it, turn it into a monument, allow it to have tours and like, one special game a year. something. ANYTHING. posted by

My favorite memory of Yankee Stadium, if not for the many references in the hit television show “Seinfield”, would be Aaron Boones game winning homerun against the Boston Red Sox, or Johnny Damons upper deck homerun as a member of the Red Sox. posted by

I'd like to see that Johnny Damon homerun again, but I did see replays of the Boone homerun during yesterday's incredible special about the history of Yankee Stadium. And Kara, I hear ya. It was VERY emotional!!! Watching all the old footage, my husband looked on dreamily and said that he wished he'd lived back in those days. It did seem like a simpler time, where baseball was, indeed, America's pasttime and people were a little more civilized. Yankee Stadium sort of symbolized those days. Too bad that it has to be torn down.
