Hi there!
Your title instantly grabbed my attention, because I also have major sleeping problems. Mine is due to the Lupus medication I am on, and it has been one year since I began taking the meds. I have become a regular viewer of 2am television, finishing books at 4am, and basically hating the wee hours. The teachers I work with know my problem and I think they can sense when to steer clear of me!! I mean, can you be super chipper on 3 hours of sleep??
I purchased a sound machine from Wal-Mart and play "rain" when it's time to sleep... although like your mattress-switching experience, I think the month or two of snore-sessions simply turned out to be a placebo. It's worth a try, though. They sell the machines for $20 and are located in the CD-section (it comes with an arrangement of 7 sounds).
