Tsimpson-
This is a topic my husband and I discuss regularaly--almost daily unfortunately. Overall, there just seems to be more and more of a lack of respect among society in general. I remember my husband and I taking our girls to a late breakfast at a restaurant about a year or so ago and shortly after we were seated, a group of 4 or 5 young men (early 20s) were seated at the booth directly behind us. It was a weekday and the restaurant was relatively bare, so the noise and conversation coming from the young men behind us radiated quite loudly. After about the third foul word--inexcusably the "F" word in this instance--I turned around and said "Excuse me, would you mind watching your language when children are present." They obliged and fortunately they truly did modify their language. But I don't think I should have ever had to say anything to begin with. Common courtesy should have alerted them to the fact that such language is not tolerable in that situation....
