Why is the city Re-Active Instead of Pro-Active?
Why does it take a child being hit by a car to do something?
About a year ago I called the City of Bakersfield, and asked them to put in Stop signs on the corners of Marla Ave and Luciano St a 4-way intersection.
I told the person on the phone that we needed this because people speed up and down Luciano and Marla. I also told them we needed this because children walk home from school everyday on these streets (which are both in the middle of a residential neighborhood and school zone). I said that a stop sign would make it safer for the children to cross at the corners. I was told that there had to be a specific amount of traffic for them to put in a stop sign, and they do not put in stop signs to deter speeders. This I do not understand, how does a stop sign not deter speeders? They have to stop. The city said they would put up strips to check the amount of traffic. I then asked what is it going to take to get stop...
