Hi,

Welcome to The Bakersfield Voice Web site!

My name is Olivia and I am the Publisher of The Bakersfield Voice.

If you are new to the site, welcome and I invite you to join our community!

If you are pro, coming over from The Northwest Voice and The Southwest Voice, our pioneering products, a warm hug and welcome to our new bigger family!

The Bakersfield Voice is a citizen journalism online and printed product that was the brainchild of our mothership, The Bakersfield Californian. The Voice is run under a startup company that is a subsidiary of The Californian.

But because of our successes, we get calls from all over the country and globe from publishers and editors who want to create a similar citizen journalism community publication like ours.

You should all be proud! Thank you for your support and stay involved on our site!
 

 A little more about me:
I have been in the media business for nearly 15 years. Aside from publishing, I teach media college classes.
Bakersfield holds a special place in my heart: I love working in the community where I was born and raised.
I am married to a local police officer and former Marine, and we have four handsome sons. Our youngest is three months old while our oldest is 11.
We also have three beautiful German Shepherds.

I love The Voice becauses it's all about you and what's important to you. It's exciting to see all these great community contributions and photo submissions.
In addition, our regular columnists really add a special feel to our publication.

hi Olivia, hw r U; hey, this is dimitri 'dodie', username/starlight681941. This is to tell U, my tongue dropped as well as my jaw to have had found your 'editor's note' about saluting the nurses in the BakersfieldLife Magazine! I was reading this magazine at 8 a.m. on May 6 at a gastroenterologist's office at San Dimas Street; while waiting for my wife's clinical procedure. Your notes are quite swell; having had given kudos to the nurses on how they helped you in your life about your labor pains! Dear Olivia, thankyou for your condolences,,,I am sorry about your dad also. Dads are so special. I think about mine every day, Once in awhile, I dream I am a little girl spending with my dad. I wake up feeling as if it really happend. Its nice to have a visit from him , in my dreams now and then. Congrats on the new baby...Sherry

Hi Olivia-

I owe you a huge apology in just now getting back to you.  I think my excuse is going to be that we had my Mom wind up in the E.R. about the time you sent this & even though I hate to admit it, I think I wasn't quite on top of things.  Totally whiffed this one.   

So, yes I am still the Kern County Liaison for the Devil Pups program.  I will take you up on the invite to do a write-up.  We're getting some great responses so far this year & I haven't even promoted it yet.  Even have faculty at Garces High & other high schools calling to get kids in because some of their students went through the program last summer and they are pleased with the results.    

It will good for your boys when they get to 14.  Wish I'd have gone through it as a teen... I would have been a better Marine for it.   Take care & tell your husband ooo-rah for me.
