Hi hi from Sooz!

I am so glad to be living here in the NW and in Bakersfield in general!

I am thankful to my union, IBEW Local #428 for having enough work to keep a lot of us busy, and many from out of town where work is scarce. I also thank Local #428 for the open minded reception to me, a female who has worked in the electrical trade since 1977 at age 18. This means a lot because what we do for a living reflects upon who we are, how we get along and the image our kids have of us.

When we moved here due to a job transfer we chose Bakersfield because it was closer to Santa Barbara, where my daughter's Dad lived. The drive from Sacramento was a limiting value when it came to their visits and we werre hoping they could build a better relationship with the move.

After purchasing the house we began noticing that we have fantastic neighbors who have become our friends. Heck! We made more friends in the first 3 years here than we had in Sacramento altogether!

My daughter really loves this town and says she would not trade it for Sacramento, or even Washington State where she was born and where the bulk of my family still lives.

She believes that she has a great life now, after some teen stumbling blocks and encourages other teens to respect their parents and make better choices when it comes to what they do with their time. She also says that since moving here she has "made real friends that could last a lifetime", unlike the life we had in the past.

This makes me happy because I know how important friends are to a teen.

I think, where our kids are involved we should continue to set a good example...do as I do and do as I say sort of a thing. I also believe the Golden Rule, and all the good old sayings...cliche's if you will are alive and well. For instance, "one good turn deserves another".

We, as parents and role models should use these sayings we were raised with liberally so the generations to come will have the good lives we and our grandparents would hope for.

Dreams goals and continuing to make new ones is important not just for kids, but for adults too (-;
