Norris Elementary fourth-grade students are currently involved in a fitness curriculum that uses fundraising to inspire kids to get fit through running.
Three students, Christopher Nickell, Carlos Pat and Veronia Zubia, recently reached the 100-mile mark in just under three months. Cristi Cortez and Eva Ramirez from Kaiser Permanente were present to award these students with a finisher's medal on Feb. 2.
The following are quotes from the students when asked what they think about running:
“I don't like to run. People run for cancer. I do, too, run for people with cancer. I want to cure this sickness. I will run until I die!” Carlos Pat.
“I want to run all the time. I think running builds character. I and two other students already have one hundred miles. I run three to four times a week.” Christopher Nickell.
“I love running because when I run I feel no one can touch me. I am free of everything. No problems. No worries. No complaining. No nothing. I feel I'm flying. I feel I'm soaring. That's why I love to run!” Veronica Subia.
“I like running because when you run you get healthier. lso, I run for the people that are in the hospital and that have leukemia and lymphoma. When I run I earn more and more money for the people that have cancer.” Chantel Montoya.
“I like running because it keeps me healthy and in shape. It is a time to spend with your friend. You run for the benefit of it. It is just a fun thing to do. You can also run for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I encourage you to run.” Karlie Reynolds.
“I like running because you get lots of energy. It helps the people who have leukemia and lymphoma. If you run 100 miles, it gives them $100.” Bradley Tinsley.
