If you’re looking for an epic tale of friendship, adventure and destiny, then look no further than Brian Jacques’ ‘Eulalia’. If you’re familiar with this revered author, you’re well acquainted with the magic of his tales. You know of the mystery that lingers in every poem, the adrenaline that rushes from every battle, and the warmth of impenetrable friendship. To those of you that aren’t familiar with Brian Jacques’ masterpieces, allow me to explain something. His Redwall Abbey series features a colorful cast of animal characters, action-packed confrontations and stirring revelations. ‘Eulalia’, in particular, carries a tale that will alter the perspective on your own life.

A young hare is temporarily ‘exiled’ from her home, in order to fulfill a prophecy. A young hedgehog thief is banned from Redwall Abbey, temporarily cast out by those that wish for his rehabilitation. A badger is forced to endure slavery on the ship of hard, cruel beasts. All these individuals will bind their paths, coming together as one to rid Redwall Abbey of a powerful threat. Throughout their adventure, fears and old obstacles will be met. Destinies are sought as our heroes endure the journey of a lifetime, earning eternal friends and strengthening their hearts. Brian Jacques’ tales frequently feature young ones that are determined to meet their goals, and this tale is no exception. His work also speaks of how young ones can find their true potential, and once again, ‘Eulalia’ holds a tremendous tale of courage and vibrant strength.

The characters are endearing, each of them equipped with their own personalities. No one’s stiff or stale, able to give their own reactions to unique situations. Even in the midst of danger, the characters come off as cute-but not in a sugary, corny way. They’re not stuffed animals, but friends you wish to hold forever. You’ll find yourself cheering for several, if not all, of the characters. The end of the tale will be bittersweet, for you’ll find yourself craving more of the characters.

If this is your first foray into the world of Redwall Abbey, welcome aboard. You’ll be fascinated by the spells of enchantment, mystery and excitement. If you’ve been into the Abbey before, and you’re looking at ‘Eulalia’, feel free to jump right in. Your journey will be short, but that will only be because you’ll enjoy the ride so much.
