I've Got APPS!

I am in love with my new-to-me iPhone. Yes, you read right! It’s new. To me. See we bought Princess Twinkie(my teen daughter)  an iPhone for Christmas, but it was the original version we happened to buy off Teen Barbie (one of my best friends) and Cabana Boy(her husband).

picture below are Teen Barbie and Cabana Boy on Halloween

THEN I broke my phone on Superbowl Sunday so I needed a new one.

Princess Twinkie was due for an upgrade, but I’m not due for one until October.

So we went into the ATT store, bought the NEWER AND BETTER iPhone with her upgrade. We upgraded HER iPhone and she handed me down hers. An iPhone, is an iPhone, as far as I’m concerned. And it’s better than the phone I had. Not that I didn’t have a nice phone but .. well.. it was broken. Hahaha

Ok, so anyways, back to my iPhone and why I love it so much. Other than the fact that HELLO it’s an iPhone and the internet access just doesn’t even compare to any other PDA, it’s also got great APPS.

I haven’t been excited about “apps” since watching Beautiful Girls in 1996 with Matt Dillon, Timothy Hutton, Uma Thurman and Michael Rappaport.

You know, that scene where they walk into the restaurant to visit their good friend “Stinky” Womack? Then a small battle of the wits ensues and Stinky breaks the awkwardness by saying, “Hey everybody I got apps!”

Appetizers. Of course. Not APPS. But still.. it's fitting. Appetizers are probably my weight gain downfall.

Anyways, back to the iPhone APPS. My favorite right now is this one called “Lose It”

"Lose It" allows you to enter what you had for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it counts the calories for you. You can also add your current weight, height, and weight loss goal and any exercise you might be doing and it will tell you how many calories you should eat a day. My allowed calorie count is 790.

It might seem like it's too little of an amount but keep in mind I'm only 5ft tall and weigh 135 pounds and I perform ZERO exercise.

I’ve always wondered why I’m as heavy as I am because I don’t really think I eat that bad.

I don’t eat junk food.

I don’t eat greasy food.

I don’t eat sweets.

So WHAT.THE.HECK?

Well, “Lose It” told me exactly what the heck. I entered everything I ate and drank yesterday (which I didn’t think was much AT ALL. In fact, I was left a little hungry throughout the day) and it shook its little judgmental finger at me and said, “Tsk tsk, Twinkie. If you want to lose weight you have reduce your calorie intake by 450 calories.”

WHAT? Why? But… but.. I didn’t eat very much yesterday, what do you mean?

Well, thanks to “Lose It” now I know that I over ate yesterday. I also know that today after my breakfast and lunch I only have 190 calories left for dinner. Which means I better choose wisely!

If this is the only ONE extra feature my iPhone had other than texting, calls and internet, all would be alright with the world! I wouldn’t even care if it didn’t have Google Earth.

I mean, who wants to spy on their neighbors anyways? Not this girl. Not me! Nu-uh!

By the way, lady that lives five houses down from me, your kid snuck out last night around 1:00am. Just kidding. Sort of.

I am also a big fan of the iPhone... I love apps too.. Never tried "Lose it" But I love "Pandora" and "Aol Radio.." And have you tried the BW camera app? I even have the Bible, Catholic Mass schedule, yellow pages, AP news on my iphone... i guess I spend too much time on my phone, huh???

Palooka, I own it on VHS and when we got rid of our VCRS I about died because I couldn't find Beautiful Girls on DVD. I was complaining to my honey about a year ago about it and he said to check again so I did. And lo and behold.. FINALLY! So I bought it along with a few other great movies that I watch over and over and over.

Beautiful Girls is one of my top 20 movies!  Not to many people have seen it though.  I had to buy my dvd copy from a canadian website because no one had it available in the states.  This was a few years ago though.

And one day, I too wish to be a part of the cool "I have an Iphone" club.  But I agree with pawprintcity, I need to wait until I can pay for all the bells & whistles of the Iphone.  Otherwise it would be just another phone.

Arrrgghhhhh! One more reason for me NOT to get an iphone! Having someone tell me what I should be eating is almost like having a nagging husband. Which, in my most humble opinion is, much the same as getting nibbled to death by a duck...

Have fun with your phone, kiddo!

Oh ok! Gotcha! Well, since we already have a family unlimited texting plan which is only $30.00 for the whole family (or $20.00 per line if you're an individual) all I had to pay was for unlimited internet, which was only $20.00 extra a month.

No, I was referring to the monthly fee for having an iPhone. From what I've heard it's around $100 a month to access the web, etc. Sadly, out of my current price range, what with all the pet food bills :o)

But if you find a great pet app, let me know. Maybe I'll be able to write off part of the phone as "research materials".

Thank you! I will.

But now wait a minute.. you mean those APPS fees are MONTHLY fees? I thought  they were a one time fee. Not that it matters for this particular APP since it's a free one, but still. I need to be prepared for when I'm ready to venture out into the "paid APPS" list.

I have to admit that the app that makes me think about getting an iPhone is the one where you can hold the phone up to a speaker and after it hears a few seconds of lyrics can tell you the name of a song and the artist...I just have to wait until I can afford the monthly fees for such a beast.

Have much fun with yours and let us know what other cool features you discover.
