Bunk Beds

Ok so Saturday marked a new era in our house.  We put bunk beds in my daughter's room.  It all started with my husband stating that we needed to try and get my older son, who just started high school,  a room of his own. Now this meant that we would either have to turn the "play room" into my older son' s room or put the two youngest in a room together. He was very surprised when I was against this. I couldn't admit it that day but I finally did several days later. We had two boys and I did the whole sports theme, boys decor in their bedroom. I finally got a girl and decorated her room in cute girly things. Now he wanted me to give that up and put her in with my son. Then I (I mean she) would not have a girly room. So I thought about it and my older son really does need his own space so I have relented (woosily given in). I will have to come up with creative ways for her (me) to have a partially girly room. Now we have never done the bunk bed thing and since my daughter is a dare devil I was and still am a little apprehensive. She has no fear and will jump off of any surface that she can climb onto. These particular beds came from my inlaws, since they were turning what was once a guest room for grandsons into a very much needed office, we would benefit from this transition.  So we put the beds up in her room which is now wall to wall furniture - we still have some arranging to do. The goal is to eventually move our 8 year old in her room with her or put them in his room and give the oldest her room.  But of course my husband did not want to move the beds into the bigger (logical) room.  We figured this would not matter because we weren't going to make the transition of roommate switching til several months from now. She is two and still acts like it after all. We figured there would be lots of "I don't want to switch rooms, or do I have to?" No my son wanted to sleep in the bunk beds that very night.  I thought well I guess since it's a weekend it's a good time to try it out. That way if no one gets any sleep at least it is the weekend. When I said we still have some arranging to do, I meant we have to take down her crib that we had converted into a daybed. The bottom bunk is even lower to the ground than her current bed. I am not ready to take down her crib. She is my baby and this was not suppossed to happen yet. Sniff. Anyway I let my husband handle it, I had a very much needed Mom's night out. So I left it up to my hubby to handle the bedtime relays. They ended up in the same bottom bunk together. How cute is that!

Just moved my kids into the same room as well. I decided they needed more bonding time.......ha right. I was tired of having to go into separate rooms at night with them to go to bed so we knock it all out in one room now......love it!!! And I still have a play room.........whew!!!

It just breaks my heart to think that your daughter is going to lose her feminine room!  I know she's only 2, but little girls need their own pretty room, too!  haha!  Can you tell that I'm really lobbying for her to keep her room?  :))

Oh Thanks so much for the positive comments. I've never done anything like this before. So glad my story didn't bore any of you.  We are still toying with the idea of changing the playroom into older son's room. It is floor to ceiling windows with not alot of privacy.  We just had to get those bunk beds from my inlaws right away so they would have room for their new office furniture.  So for now no roommates have changed. She is still in her own room. She is not ready for a roommate just yet. Brandon spent one night in there and she kept him up but he was a good sport about it. Maybe we will try it again this weekend.

I've been thinking about this a lot (haha!).  Converting the play room to the freshman boy's room wasn't an option?

Ohhhhh...I love this blog!  You are such a good writer/storyteller!  I laughed out loud when you typed "sniff" -- HAHA!  Let us know how it goes.  Wait, matter of fact -- please upload a photo of the kids on the bed!  That would be awesome!

your storytelling reminds me of kevin nealon's sublimal messages from saturday night live!! with all your (funny) inserts!
