I lived in Bakersfield for 11 years until the day I turned 18.  I graduated from Centennial High and then quickly joined the Air Force in 99.   I spent four years in Hawaii where I met my husband and my son was born.  I spent the next two years living in Turkey and traveling all over Europe.  While in Turkey my daughter was born and I seperated from the service.  I have been living up in Washington for three years now, but I still consider Bakersfield home.

Hi, Crystal! I just read your profile -- what an example of how fate leads you to where you should be in life! My dad was in the Air Force in the mid-1960s. He ended up getting stationed in the Philippines. That's where he met my mom, who worked on the base at the base store. She is a Filipina. Anyway, as they say, the rest is history! Seriously, how else would a guy from New York (and a California transplant) meet a girl from Manila?? They married in the P.I. but would move to the Bay Area where I was born & raised. Then, after 22 years of living in San Jose with my family, I ended up in Bakersfield on an internship at The Californian ... where I met MY HUSBAND!! Just happens to be that he is also an Air Force vet! Life happens in so many mysterious ways, doesn't it? Of course, that's half the fun & excitement! Congrats on your baby, too -- the Mommy Club is the best club there is. I have two boys, now 10 & 15. It goes by fast, so enjoy every moment, though it's also so wonderful to watch your children grow into great people! Hope you'll continue to post updates on your life & family through articles, blogs and/or photos on The Bakersfield Voice, especially since B-town is still your home at heart! Take care!
